Gavin Blake-Coggins

Hailsham New Town
Liberal Democrats

I have enjoyed a successful medical career and moved to Hailsham with my family in 1987. Shortly after, I became involved in local politics, a choice I’ve always valued. My focus remains on supporting the community, especially the young and elderly. Since retiring, I have dedicated more time to organizing social events and improving sports facilities, and I intend to continue these efforts.  This is only part of what I can do and wish to expand to use ALL my skills and knowledge.  Unlike many today I have never seen politics as my career but only a pathway to support residents of my hometown Hailsham.

Trevor has lived in East Sussex since childhood and has made Hailsham his home for nearly two decades. Following a 40-year career in Policing, serving local communities, including those in East Sussex and Hailsham, he is standing for election as a continuance of his commitment to stand up for local residents and businesses in Hailsham in all areas that affect people’s lives. Trevor considers it a privilege to serve his communities and the opportunity to be the Conservative Elected Member for residents and businesses for Hailsham New Town is no different. Please support Trevor on the 7th May to be your voice on local issues and create strong and vibrant communities and businesses in Hailsham.

IMG 1635 • Hailsham Chamber of Commerce

Hailsham New Town
Independent

I have been a Hailsham resident for a big part of my childhood and all of my adult life. I am a local taxi driver of almost 22 years, a town councillor and somebody who is passionate about Hailsham and its future. As such I have seen and heard the problems we all face with my own eyes and will fix them.

Neil Cleaver • Hailsham Chamber of Commerce

Hailsham Market
Reform UK

As your Reform UK County Councillor I would work hard to improve the lives of all residents.

I would work on ridding the County of the pothole nightmare that damages our cars and creates dangers for road users. I would seek to save taxpayers’ money by ceasing the employment of ‘non-jobs’ such as diversity, climate change and sustainability officers. I would focus on protecting farmers, fishing and business to thrive and create opportunity and prosperity in East Sussex.

Steve Murphy • Hailsham Chamber of Commerce

Hailsham Market
Liberal Democrats

I’m Steve , I’ve lived in Hailsham for over 40 years and I love it here. I love the town and it’s people. It has been my honour and privilege to represent and serve the town at County Council level and beyond for the last 5 years.

I’m a retired consultant engineer, and have my own niche tour operator business bringing overseas visitors to this area to see the historic places we have in our beautiful county of  Sussex and in England.  I serve on The County Place Committee which deals with the Built Environment also IFCA (Sussex Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authority) which is a tax raising, prosecuting authority that protects the Sussex shoreline. I am the Liberal Democrat member of SACRE (Statutory Advisory Council for Religious Education in Schools) this monitors the teaching of religion across all faiths in schools.  If I’m elected I want to be able to improve the primary care facilities in our town and sort out the usual traffic chaos by getting a proper junction at South road bridge.

Paul Reform • Hailsham Chamber of Commerce

Hailsham New Town
Reform UK

I have lived in Hailsham for the last 25 years and having lived / worked all over the UK, I feel more at home in East Sussex than any where else.

I have had a long varied career in corporate organisations, public sector and running my own businesses.

I spent the bulk of my career as a senior manager in one of the UK’s premier retailers.

I was considered a ‘turnaround’ specialist for underperforming shops and have an impressive track record in this field.

I have significant experience of running small businesses and have worked in the public sector twice in my career.

I have previously served as a Town and District councillor.
I was also Chair of ‘Hailsham Forward’ in it’s formative period.

Don’t miss this chance to hear directly from those vying to represent you!

Organised by Hailsham Chamber of Commerce, we invite members of the Sussex Weald Constituency to attend a lively evening of election debate at the Hailsham Civic Community Hall, 20 Vicarage Lane, Hailsham BN27 1BE on Monday 13th April 2026 .

Please arrive at 6:30pm for a 6:45pm start. Free parking is available.

Given the limitation on numbers it is essential please that if attending, you reserve a place via eventbrite. One person per booking, so we have a record of everyone’s name and email address. We expect high demand and tickets are, of course, available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. If you subsequently find you are unable to attend having booked a place, please revisit eventbrite and cancel your place so it can be made available for someone else. Please book your seats here.

Doors will open at 6:30pm as bag checks will be carried out for the audience and while we aim to make this a smooth process, please be patient when queuing. Please avoid bringing bags, if possible, to speed up the entry process and minimise any security risk. Doors will close at 6:45pm for a prompt start. Regrettably, bar facilities will not be available.

We will have preprepared topical questions based upon the main talking points of this election and will invite the candidates to respond to include commentary on both national and local issues. The responses to our questions will occupy the first part of the evening before we come to questions from the floor.

Naturally, we cannot guarantee to cover every question, although we will aim to get through as many as possible. Questions from the floor, must be submitted before the evening commences via the Hailsham Chamber of Commerce website by clicking here. A roving mic will enable those who want to ask a question to do so personally, when invited to speak.

Candidates will have the opportunity to make an opening statement and indeed, closing remarks similar to the TV style debates. We hope that General Election material for the parties will be available upon arrival for the audience to peruse ahead of the formalities.
